On the quiver-theoretical quantum Yang–Baxter equation

Quivers over a fixed base set form a monoidal category with tensor product given by pullback. The quantum Yang–Baxter equation, or more properly the braid equation, is investigated in this setting. A solution of the braid equation in this category is called a “solution” for short. Results of Etingof–Schedler–Soloviev, Lu–Yan–Zhu and Takeuchi on the set-theoretical quantum Yang–Baxter equation are generalized to the context of quivers, with groupoids playing the role of groups. The notion of “braided groupoid” is introduced. Braided groupoids are solutions and are characterized in terms of bijective 1-cocycles. The structure groupoid of a non-degenerate solution is defined; it is shown that it is a braided groupoid. The reduced structure groupoid of a non-degenerate solution is also defined. Non-degenerate solutions are classified in terms of representations of matched pairs of groupoids. By linearization we construct star-triangular face models and realize them as modules over quasitriangular quantum groupoids introduced in papers by M. Aguiar, S. Natale and the author.     

Partially finite convex programming,Part I: Quasi relative interiors and duality theory

We study convex programs that involve the minimization of a convex function over a convex subset of a topological vector space, subject to a finite number of linear inequalities. We develop the notion of the quasi relative interior of a convex set, an extension of the relative interior in finite dimensions. We use this idea in a constraint qualification for a fundamental Fenchel duality result, and then deduce duality results for these problems despite the almost invariable failure of the standard Slater condition. Part II of this work studies applications to more concrete models, whose dual problems are often finite-dimensional and computationally tractable.     

2-Propanol oxidation on platinum and platinum–rhodium electrodeposits

The electrocatalytic oxidation of 2-propanol was investigated using on line differential electrochemical mass spectrometry (DEMS) on electrodeposited Pt and an arrange of bimetallics: Pt_0.84Rh_0.16, Pt_0.70Rh_0.30, Pt_0.55Rh_0.45. It has been observed that the Pt_0.84Rh_0.16 bimetallic electrode presented the best catalytic activity for 2-propanol electrochemical oxidation. Since 2-propanol is a secondary alcohol, only acetone and CO₂ are produced. The total yield of CO₂ and acetone has been determined from the DEMS measurements. It is found that acetone is the major product, as reported before for other electrodes. The acetone and CO₂ yield depends on the electrode composition. High amount of rhodium in the electrode composition strongly diminish the reaction rate as indicated by the decrease of both the acetone and CO₂ yield. However, acetone inhibition is much more intense. The only bimetallic electrode that presents considerable mass spectroscopy signals intensity for CO₂ and acetone is the Pt_0.84Rh_0.16 electrode. This electrode shows a slight increase in CO₂ selectivity, compared to the other electrodes studied in this work. Only very low coverages of stable adsorbates were present during the reaction. Two and one carbon adsorbate were observed for all the electrodes. Three carbon adsorbates were detected only for the Pt_0.84Rh_0.16 electrode. Therefore, acetone production does not require a stable adsorbate.     

Functorial methods in the theory of group representations I

We introduce a candidate for the group algebra of a Hausdorff group which plays the same role as the group algebra of a finite group. It allows to define a natural bijection betweenk-continuous representations of the group in a Hilbert space and continuous representations of the group algebra. Such bijections are known, but to our knowledge only for locally compact groups. We can establish such a bijection for more general groups, namely Hausdorff groups, because we replace integration techniques by functorial methods, i.e., by using a duality functor which lives in certain categories of topological Banach balls (resp., unit balls of Saks spaces).This paper was written while the authors were supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation under grant 21-33644.92.     

Two-generator subgroups of soluble groups and their Fitting subgroups

For soluble groups, the Fitting length is bounded by a function of the maximum order of the Fitting subgroups of 2-generator subgroups.     

基于cDNA宏阵列的系统聚类分析猪发育阶段的基因表达谱

取杜洛克猪胚胎第33,45,55，65．75天的背最长肌样本．用cDNA Macroarray分析方法和聚类分析技术分析了327个EST在骨骼肌内不同发育阶段的基因表达谱．结果表明有98条EST在不同发育时期显著差异表达．第33天和第45天两阶段基因表达状态相似．第55天和第65天基因表达状态相似．而第75天的基因表达与第55天和第65天两个阶段的基因表达具有相近的聚类关系．表达状态相近，基因功能相似的基因大都被聚类在一起．     

Novel applications of 2-cyanoethylanilines in the synthesis of conjugated primary and secondary anilines

2-Cyanoethyl anilines were controllably cleaved by 1 equiv of potassium t-butoxide in dry THF with a reaction that can be used in situ with the Wittig reaction to synthesize conjugated primary and secondary anilines.     

Subword complexes in Coxeter groups

Let (Π,Σ) be a Coxeter system. An ordered list of elements in Σ and an element in Π determine a subword complex, as introduced in Knutson and Miller (Ann. of Math. (2) (2003), to appear). Subword complexes are demonstrated here to be homeomorphic to balls or spheres, and their Hilbert series are shown to reflect combinatorial properties of reduced expressions in Coxeter groups. Two formulae for double Grothendieck polynomials, one of which appeared in Fomin and Kirillov (Proceedings of the Sixth Conference in Formal Power Series and Algebraic Combinatorics, DIMACS, 1994, pp. 183-190), are recovered in the context of simplicial topology for subword complexes. Some open questions related to subword complexes are presented.     

A new joint model for longitudinal and survival data with a cure fraction

We develop a new joint cure rate model for longitudinal and survival data. The model allows for multiple longitudinal markers as well as a cure structure for the survival component based on the promotion time cure rate model, as described in Ibrahim et al. (Bayesian Survival Analysis, Springer, New York, 2001). Several characteristics and properties of the new model are discussed and examined. A real dataset from a melanoma clinical trial is given to demonstrate the methodology.
